Mailbox and other services on the Google Workspace platform for all the users who are doing a PhD at UniTrento.
The email messaging service provided by the University of Trento for official communication between doctoral candidates and university consists in a personal and free email address distributed via Google Workspace platform.
To access your email log in with your username and network password. Official university communications to staff and students are sent to University email accounts.
For the entire career at UniTrento doctoral candidates will have an email address in the form of @unitn.it. The storage space of the mailbox is unlimited.
Email address deactivation
Once the candidate has got the doctoral degree, and according to current UniTrento policies, which may change shortly, the university email account is still active, but the email address becomes
- name.surname [at] ex-staff.unitn.it
After earning the degree, the email address @unitn.it will be active for 180 days. In case the PhD enters into a contract or starts collaborating with UniTrento, the “ex-staff email address” will be not valid anymore, and the user will be given the email address in the form @unitn.it again.
Also doctoral candidates are provided with all the Google Apps available on the Google Workspace platform.
You can easily access the Google Applications by using the Google Workspace widget available on MyUnitn.
Please have a look at the FAQs for further instructions and suggestions.
We suggest you to use Chrome in order to take full advantage of the Google Apps Service. As regards the email messaging service, Google is compatible with the Internet standard protocols POP and IMAP, though features are reduced in this case.
NB: after 180 days from the closure of the career, you will also lose access to Google Drive and to the apps provided only for active users. It is therefore advisable to communicate the change in the address to your contacts and export the emails received / sent with that address (see https://icts.unitn.it/google-takeout) before final cancellation
