Mailing lists for the Unitn users
The mailing list is a communication method where an email message is sent to a system and then automatically forwarded to a specific list of recipients.
A mailing list is associated with a number of recipients having a common interest according to their role, as shown in the IDM system of the University (ADA). You can, therefore, send messages to all the members of a Department, for example, or to all the users of a specific service, or to all the people who have a specific role within the University of Trento.
The manager or administrator of the mailing list is the person (or the group of people) in charge of the configuration settings of the mailing list: they are interested in the existence of the mailing list, they attend to all contents, and they know names and needs of the recipients.
Possible changes in a list of recipients must be presented to those who have ultimate authority over the list, for example to the HR Management regarding institutional mailing lists, the Head of the Department regarding specific mailing lists, etc.
Each person who is part of one or more mailing lists is called member. If a message is sent to more than one mailing list and the same user is a member of more than one mailing list, the message will be sent only once. There are institutional mailing lists that users join automatically according to their professional profile and role (e.g. Professors, staff, etc.). Other mailing lists require a specific request of membership.
The request of the creation of a new mailing list must be submitted by the administrative offices to the computer technicians of the same divisions and departments.
In the University there are two systems to create maililng list, the sympa server and the Google Groups, for more details go to page https://icts.unitn.it/google-gruppi-e-liste-sympa
