University Mailing list

All active users in the UniTrento community are guaranteed - by default or upon request- a personal email account, so that every individual could be recognized as a University member while communicating online. The email domain varies according to the user’s role ; sometimes it may happen that a user has more domains at the same time (e.g and at the same time). Personal mailboxes may combine with organizational boxes, which are accessible to the staff of some specific offices or didactics and research structures. Among the services offered are also those instruments designed for the email in general (such as mailing lists, newsgroups, directories, systems of notification management), and the online calendar, i.e. a person or a group of people’s schedule, which is useful - if enabled - for arranging meetings and business appointments.

Management of mailing lists or moderate newsletters.

Mailing lists for the Unitn users

The mailing list is a communication method where an email message is sent to a system and then automatically forwarded to a specific list of recipients.

A mailing list is associated with a number of recipients having a common interest according to their role, as shown in the IDM system of the University (ADA). You can, therefore, send messages to all the members of a Department, for example, or to all the users of a specific service, or to all the people who have a specific role within the University of Trento.

The manager or administrator of the mailing list is the person (or the group of people) in charge of the configuration settings of the mailing list: they are interested in the existence of the mailing list, they attend to all contents, and they know names and needs of the recipients.

Possible changes in a list of recipients must be presented to those who have ultimate authority over the list, for example to the HR Management regarding institutional mailing lists, the Head of the Department regarding specific mailing lists, etc.

Each person who is part of one or more mailing lists is called member. If a message is sent to more than one mailing list and the same user is a member of more than one mailing list, the message will be sent only once. There are institutional mailing lists that users join automatically according to their professional profile and role (e.g. Professors, staff, etc.). Other mailing lists require a specific request of membership.

The request of the creation of a new mailing list must be submitted by the administrative offices to the computer technicians of the same divisions and departments.

In the University there are two systems to create maililng list, the sympa server and the Google Groups, for more details go to page

The mailing list service is based on the University email system, from which it derives the anti-spam rules, the limit for the type and dimension of the possible attachments, the availability of the services and its supervision.
