Digital University - Dashboard

The UniTrento web portal is designed on an architecture that has been designed, implemented and maintained by the IT services management in cooperation with the Communication management, in order to take care of the technological aspects as well as the graphical and textual ones. Alongside it are other websites created to meet specific needs for organization and research: these could be personal websites based on a standard web content management system where the user -often a professor- autonomously posts some content, or websites designed by external companies. Among these services are also those platforms being accessible with authentication only, which enable the private management of some content (e.g. MyUnitn).

The Dashboard offers affiliates of the University of Trento a series of graphics dashboards by way of support for the self-assessment of performance and to make informed decisions in various areas: research, current teaching and degree courses and human resources.

Description

The service. The Dashboard offers affiliates of the University of Trento a series of graphics dashboards by way of support for the self-assessment of performance and to make informed decisions in various areas: research, current teaching and degree courses and human resources.

Characteristics and technical functions of the service. Access is gained using your University credentials. Access to the individual graphics dashboards depends on the role played by the individual user in the University organisation, as each level is assigned a different access profile by the system administrator. Some dashboards are reserved to people with institutional or managerial roles and are based on data regarding the whole of the University (the GOVERNANCE profile) or an individual academic structure (the MANAGER profile, assigned precisely to the Manager and his representatives). Some other dashboards are offered to each member of the university community and are based on personal data (the PERSON profile) for self-assessment purposes. Other dashboards are offered to all University affiliates (the UNIVERSITY profile), given that they are based on data that is publicly available. People covering multiple roles can choose from the various profiles supported by the system. For example, once profiled by the administrator, a Manager of an academic structure can choose PERSON to monitor his/her own publications and MANAGER when instead wishing to explore data about publications produced by members of the relevant academic structure.

Privacy and data sources. The DU Dashboard uses data extracted from various administrative databases of the University of Trento and from Open Data sources available externally. Data is selected as necessary to calculate the statistical indicators offered. The statistical indicators have been selected by balancing the priorities established by the managers of the academic structures when designing the service and the effective availability of data. Information is handled in complete respect of privacy. See the dedicated page for more information.

The Digital University initiative. The DU Dashboard is the third service designed and developed under the scope of the Digital University initiative.
